Weather service meteorologists tell Albany-area media outlets that witnesses reported a possible twister just before 5 p.m. Tuesday near Copake in Columbia County, on the Massachusetts border 40 miles southeast of Albany. No injuries or major damage was reported.
Powerful thunderstorms rumbled across upstate New York into Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, knocking down trees and power lines. National Grid reported about 12,000 customers without power in central New York, mostly east and south of Syracuse.
About 3,000 customers remain without power Wednesday morning.
