The victim was hit as he crossed 59th Street near Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the driver did not stop, driving his black Nissan Maxima eastbound on 59th Street.
But police and an alert tow truck driver followed the vehicle and boxed in the suspect at 57th Street and Junction Boulevard.
He apparently tried to run away on foot and even jumped into another vehicle in a failed getaway attempt.
He was taken into custody and charges are pending.
The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
