Officials seek more spending after Connecticut Metro North crash

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch have scheduled a news conference Wednesday at the site of the May 17 accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board says an eastbound train from New York City derailed during evening rush hour, came to a stop and was struck about 20 seconds later by a westbound train. About 700 people were on board and more than 70 people were injured.

The rail safety agency is investigating, but has ruled out foul play.
