Dangers of texting and driving

May 31, 2013 We know taking your eyes off the road for any time to re-focus on a little electronic screen is sooooo dangerous. So many things can happen during that second or two. Or five.

Starting at midnight, a crackdown in New York State ordered by executive fiat by Gov. Cuomo for anyone who's caught texting while driving. Five points off your license, up from the current three point penalty. More checkpoints on the horizon, and more troopers patrolling the roads looking for texters. Be forewarned. Matt Kozar has our story tonight at 11.

Also at 11, from a crackdown on texting to a crackdown on drinking on New Jersey Transit's Coast Line train to the PNC Bank Arts Center. The worry is that many concert goers get sloshed before they get to the event, causing problems on the train. So now a ban on all drinking alcohol and water! In this heat? Say what? We're taking a closer look tonight – night number one on the ban, as folks go to the Pitbull and Ke$ha concert (What? You haven't heard of them? Shame on you!)

And Nina Pineda with a warning about keeping your receipts. She has the story about some homeowners who supposedly had an outstanding lien against their home – for a loan that was indeed paid off. But it was never recorded. Thankfully, the homeowners kept their receipts, and could prove they paid - but what a mess in the meantime.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Lee Goldberg's weekend AccuWeather forecast (will we hit a third day of 90+ temps?) and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11, right after 20/20.
