Powder in Staten Island scare was baking soda

NEW YORK

NewsCopter7 was over the scene in West New Brighton after police say Judge Kim Dollard opened a letter and found white powder pouring out around 3:30 p.m.

The courthouse was immediately evacuated, but testing proved it was all just a scare.

The office of Court Administration released the following statement:

"Appropriate precautions and evacuations were made. The NYPD was notified and is in the process of doing a field test to determine the nature of the substance that was received in a letter by a court employee."

No injuries were reported.
