Long Island man arrested for allegedly stealing puppy

MIDDLE ISLAND

Police say Thursday Justin Geiger was charged with third degree burglary for snatching the unnamed Rottweiler. He was being held in police custody Thursday night and was not available for comment.

Police say the 23-year-old man entered the Friends of Freddie Pet Rescue Tuesday and asked staff if the six-to-eight-weeks-old puppy had been installed with a microchip that tracks its location. Police stay the employees responded the puppy had no such microchip.

The next day, authorities say a store employee called police to report the store's front door was smashed and the Rottweiler was missing.

Police say they arrested Geiger Thursday at his Middle Island home with the dog in his possession.
