Mayor Guy Barton of the village of Fort Plain said Friday that the floodwaters may have claimed the life of a woman living in a mobile home.
Barton told the Daily Gazette of Schenectady (http://bit.ly/1cxVxbn) that he witnessed both a mobile home and what appeared to be a bridge being swept away as the Otsquago Creek surged out of its banks.
Fort Plain police Chief Robert Thomas said Friday night he had requested a team of rescue workers who use dogs to help track down missing residents. Thomas did not say how many residents were missing.
Fort Plain is in Montgomery County about 200 miles north of New York City.
Thomas says several small buildings on two particular streets were moved from their foundations or destroyed by the water.
Many of the rivers and streams in eastern New York that flooded have started to slowly recede.
