Meteorologists in Upton, N.Y., said Tuesday that an EF0 tornado with winds up to 80 mph touched down in Greenwich and Stamford late Monday morning. The weather service says it caused extensive tree damage along a 3.7-mile path about 150 yards wide.
The National Weather Service said Monday that an EF1 tornado struck near Windsor Locks in north-central Connecticut. It had estimated maximum wind of 86 mph, and traveled 2.5 miles on a 200-yard-wide path.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday signed an emergency declaration to help the state and municipalities remove debris in East Windsor, Greenwich, Stamford, Windsor and Windsor Locks.
The declaration allows the state to help remove debris and wreckage from publicly and privately owned land.
The storm also flooded streets in Ridgefield and downed power lines. It swept through southwest Connecticut from Greenwich to Redding, where CL&P reported outages affecting several hundred customers.
Meanwhile, storms packed with heavy rain caused some significant flooding and wind damage throughout Westchester County.
In Yonkers, dozens of trees came down, with Riverdale Avenue getting hit especially hard. Several hundred residents lost power during the storm
In the Park Hill area, officials said part of the roof was torn off a building at Willow Street near Columbus Park. No one was hurt. Emergency crews are on sight and a mobile command center is set up.
There was flooding on both the north and southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway in White Plains near the county center parking lot.
Officials also reported flooding on the Taconic State Parkway in Valhalla. Standing water also closed all lanes on the Saw Mill Expressway in both directions at I-87 in Greenburgh.
In the Village of Dobbs Ferry, Beacon Hill Drive area into Gould Park and north into Maple Street, as well Pietro Place, were hard hit.
Flooding was also reported in many residences and in the basements of Village facilities.
