Husband sought in brutal slashing of woman

WOODHAVEN

"His words were 'If I can't have you, nobody will have you. You think you're pretty, you're not going to be pretty anymore,'" victim Jennifer Altman said.

Bravery is the beauty within this 26-year-old that one cannot take away.

"I have over 2000 stitches all over my body, 700 in my face alone. I have a two foot gash that goes from my thighs to the middle of my buttocks," she said.

Married just two short months, Altman says the violence started the day she tied the knot with 23-year-old Dartanyan Kingsberrry.

She says the bandages on her face and leg are the end result of the day she asked for a divorce, and was attacked with a box cutter.

"Never in my last day did I think he would do this to me," she said.

"That scream was so devastating. I get goose bumps thinking about it," her neighbor said.

That's why her 31-year-old neighbor called 911. Also in fear of the suspect, she doesn't want to be identified. The slashing played out on a residential street in Woodhaven, Queens last Friday morning around 9:30.

"She came out bloody. Her face, her clothes, her hair. Everything was really bloody," she said.

Police say Kingsberry ran away and he hasn't been seen since.

"If anybody sees him, please, you are not snitching on anybody. You are saving people's lives," Altman said.

Altman says she is now in a safe place with police protection, but she fears for her family's safety as long as the suspect remains at large.

Kingsberry is described as a black male, standing 6-feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing black work boots, a black T-shirt and gray jeans.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
