Blanding's turtles are endangered in Illinois and threatened nationwide, but the Chicago Zoological Society in collaboration with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, and other local organizations, is leading an initiative to increase the local wild population. The program will allow staff to develop and improve breeding and rearing techniques that will increase the number of turtles available for release to the wild.
