Brooklyn man drowns in Delaware River

NEW YORK

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area says National Park Service boat operators found the body of 51-year-old Juan Roberto Salomon Delacruz of Brooklyn late Saturday afternoon.

Officials said he was found about 20 yards from the New Jersey shore and pronounced dead at the scene near Kittatinny Point, N.J., by the Morris County medical examiner.

Park officials said the victim had been swimming and picnicking with family members.

Officials warn that the river may appear calm but has strong currents, sharp drop-offs and underwater obstacles.

A 9-year-old Pike County boy drowned July 8 while fishing in the park.
