Guard in viral FedEx video speaks out after losing job

NEW YORK

"That's not my true character as far as throwing boxes like that," said former security guard Bob Marge.

Marge watched the video exclusively with Eyewitness News' Tim Fleischer, showing a Fed Ex Driver throwing boxes into her truck just after 6 p.m. last Wednesday. Marge is just off to the right in the video, and his job as a guard for a security company he will not name, was to protect what he describes as "high value" packages.

"As an armed guard, I am supposed to be watching the freight," says Marge, "I was trying to expedite the freight into the truck. I did make a lapse in judgment by throwing the freight in."

The driver then seemingly hurls a stack even harder into the truck. Then, it looks like things get out of hand. Marge then hurls a package into the truck.

"I should not have done that, I made a mistake by doing that," adds Marge, "I hurt a lot of people by doing that, and I just wanted to come clean and let them know I feel very bad about what I did.

In a statement, FedEx said,

"We are very disappointed to see this, FedEx sets high standards of behavior and performance for our team members, and this behavior falls short of what is expected."

As for Bob Marge, he was fired.

"I was a little upset for a few days, but then I realized that they did the right thing," Marge adds.

As a former NYPD officer who has been in law enforcement for 20 years, Marge is hoping his public apology will help put the issue to rest.

"I really do feel horrible, but I have to move on," says Marge.
