Man offers to help, but then robs disabled woman

NEW YORK

The incident happened on July 15th at 2:30 a.m. in the Hamilton Heights section of Manhattan.

48-year-old Carre Ramirez was using a walker at the time.

"He helped me inside, then he started asking me questions - 'do you live on the first floor?', 'do you live alone?'" says Ramirez.

The man stopped and offered to help her into the building, and was even holding the door open for her.

Suddenly, he dropped his hold on the door, and placed the woman in a chokehold instead.

He forced her to the ground and ripped the two gold chains she was wearing off of her neck and ran away.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Ramirez said she did not recognize the man when he offered to help her, and that she feels lucky the attack was not more violent.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
