Long Island street renamed after slain NYPD officer Figoski

WEST BABYLON

Officials announced Saturday that Midwood Road in West Babylon is now to be called Officer Peter Figoski Way. Figoski was shot and killed in December 2011 responding to a home invasion in Brooklyn's East New York section.

The street renaming ceremony was attended by Figoski's four daughters, his mother and various police officials including NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Figoski was posthumously promoted to detective.

In June, the final two suspects in the botched robbery that killed Figoski were sentenced to 20 years to life for murder and 25 years for burglary. Earlier this year, gunman Lamont Pride was convicted of murder and sentenced to 45 years to life.
