1 hurt in boating accident on Hudson River in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, N.Y.

Bear Mountain Park Police said early Sunday the person is in stable condition and that the crash remains under investigation. It occurred about a mile north of Newburgh and 60 miles north of New York City.

Coast Guard spokesman Erik Swanson said Saturday that police are searching for the boat's operator, who may have fled. He said initial reports were of three people hurt.

On July 26, a bride-to-be and her fiancé's best man were killed on the Hudson River when their speedboat slammed into a barge beneath the Tappan Zee Bridge in Piermont. Four others, including the groom-to-be, were injured. The boat's operator faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter.
