I mean, good for the League for taking action. Getting suspended from 50 games - or 211 in the case of Alex Rodriguez - will cost these highly paid gents plenty.
But none of this happened because of baseball. In fact, if a guy in Florida hadn't tried to withdraw his measly $4,000 investment from a testing lab in that state - and then went to authorities when he couldn't get his money - none of this would have become public. So are baseball's backers suspending reality by slapping themselves on the back for a job well done?
I'm just sayin'.
Meanwhile, the pop psychologists are having a field day deconstructing the rambling, I-lost-my-train-of-thought "news" conference by A-Rod before his return to the Yankees line up last night in Chicago. Lots of column inches today devoted to how Rodriguez was raised, how he is narcissistic, how he blames everyone but himself, blah blah blah.
It's all a great read, but I couldn't help but think that perhaps we all bear some responsibility in the way these highly paid athletes are put on pedestals. In the quest for big money and big achievements, have we enabled them?
