Connecticut sales tax-free week begins

HARTFORD, Ct.

Starting Sunday, they can shop for their outfits tax free.

Certain clothing and footwear items that cost less than $300 will be exempt from the state's 6.35 percent sales tax through next Sunday.

The tax break is meant to be a boost for families and retailers during the back to school shopping season, but it comes at a price.

Officials say it will cost the state up to $8 million in lost tax revenue.

The affected items includes jeans, jackets, ties and sneakers. A full list is available on the Department of Revenue Services' website.
