Heavy rains cause flooded roads in New Jersey

BLOOMFIELD, N.J.

In Essex County, the Garden Staet Parkway was closed for a short time because of flooding between Exits 145 and 149.

Traffic had to be diverted and quickly backed up.

The Parkway reopened in both directions at about 3 p.m. after disabled vehicles were removed and water was plowed off the road.

Traffic also slowed to a crawl in Hackensack due to the rising flood water.

Five people stuck in two cars were rescued, but the water receded quickly.

There were no injuries.
