Hundreds of pets up for adoption at 'Adoptapalooza' event

NEW YORK

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals presents Adoptapalooza in partnership with the Petco Foundation and Rock & Rawhide, which works with animal shelters across the area to make lives better for animals in shelters.

Over 300 dogs, cats and rabbits will be up for adoption, and Rock & Rawhide will be collecting monetary, linen and toy donations all day.

At Adoptapalooza, you can also have your pet micro-chipped for $25 by the Mayor's Alliance, get a dog license from the Department of Health for $8.50 and talk to Ready New York experts in emergency planning for you and your pets. These options are open to anyone, not just someone who adopts.

Several pets up for adoption are joined on Eyewitness News Saturday morning, including Penny, a 3 yr old pit bull mix from Red Hook Dog Rescue.

She is described as loving, sweet, friendly to kids, cats and other dogs, loves to play fetch, is housebroken already, healthy and weighs about 58 pounds.
