Flags to fly at half-staff for Air National Guardsman killed in Afghanistan

NEWBURGH

Staff Sergeant Todd Lobraico, Jr., was killed while providing security at Bagram Air Base.

The 22-year-old New Fairfield native is the first New York Air National Guardsman to die in combat since operations began in Afghanistan in 2001.

Lobraico's body is scheduled to arrive Wednesday at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, the base that's home to his security unit.

Lobraico was serving with the 105th Security Forces Squadron based at Stewart. The unit, which provides security at air bases, was deployed to Afghanistan last June. It was Lobraico's second overseas deployment.
