MTA inspector general report finds workers slacking

NEW YORK

MTA watchdog Barry Kluger filed disciplinary charges against five road machinists and two foremen who were supposed to be maintaining Metro-North's tracks as part of the Work Equipment Division.

Kluger says that almost a quarter of site visits turned up machinists who stayed at home or sat in a car in a commuter parking lot.

In a statement, the MTA called the behavior unacceptable and said changes to the system would help oversee employee performance and the appropriate use of overtime.

A spokesman for the workers union declined to comment on the disciplinary charges until the report can be reviewed.
