Shots fired on Capitol Hill

Bill Ritter's daily take on the news.

First a shutdown. Then a lockdown. Bizarre behavior by elected officials for the first. And then bizarre behavior by a woman in a leased car with out of state plates who tried to ram a barrier at the White House. Cops gave chase. She got out of the car, acting in a "threatening" manner. And cops shot her. There was a child in the car, who was not hurt in all this.

There were conflicting reports whether she was killed or not. At first it was reported she was dead, then cops said she's in the hospital. Now it appears she's dead. They believe they know who she is - and she may be from our area - a 34 year old woman from Stamford, Connecticut, with a history of mental illness.

Jim Dolan is in Washington for us tonight, with the latest, including the secondary incident - a Secret Service car, flipping over as it rammed into a concrete barrier. What a mess. So who was this woman? We're going to find out.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Lee Goldberg's AccuWeather forecast, Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11, right after 20/20.
