New Rochelle chase, crash leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

NEW ROCHELLE

One of them, a 19-year-old, was pronounced dead on arrival at Jacobi Hospital.

Authorities say the driver was wanted for a crime and was fleeing the scene when the crash happened.

The driver is in critical condition at Sound Shore Medical Center.

Police say the incident started as a domestic dispute on Fourth Street around 11 p.m.

The suspect, a 22-year-old New Rochelle resident, allegedly got into a fight with his girlfriend, during which he choked her, hit her in the face and bit her lips and nose.

Police responded to investigate and found the victim bleeding from the mouth.

During the investigation, the suspect was seen driving by the scene, and an officer responding to the initial call saw him and tried to pull him over on Webster Avenue.

The officer followed the vehicle for several blocks and eventually lost him. The officer then came upon the accident scene where the suspect's vehicle had hit a wall.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is expected to be charged with assault for the domestic incident and possibly vehicular manslaughter for the accident. Charges are pending.
