Staten Island Ferry service expanded to late-night weekends

NEW YORK

The New York City Council voted Wednesday to expand service on the Staten Island Ferry.

Starting in six months, the ferry will run every half hour in both directions between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. on weekends.

The service is expected to extend to weeknights within the next two years.

The Department of Transportation runs the ferry and could delay the expansion if it determines the service isn't feasible.
