Spokesman: Wos not leaving as DHHS secretary

RALEIGH

DHHS spokesman Ricky Diaz says the speculation is not true.

Wos has faced scrutiny for hiring decisions and costly computer problems in the state's welfare system.

Wos has not had an easy time since taking over at DHHS, including well-publicized problems launching the NC Tracks computer system, which reimburses healthcare providers through the Medicaid program.

Providers have complained of major billing problems and months-long delays in getting payment.

Wos has also faced heavy criticism for some hiring and salary choices at DHHS. She has stood by her decision to hire two 24-year-old former Gov. Pat McCrory campaign aides to senior-level positions making taxpayer-funded salaries in excess of $85,000.
