Suspect arrested in theft of cars from Staten Island gym parking lots

NEW YORK

43-year-old Marc Steinberg was arrested Friday night by police in Freehold, New Jersey.

He is accused of going into several fitness centers and stealing car keys from people who were working out.

Investigators say he then takes off with their car.

The first incident happened around 6 p.m. on September 28 at a Retro Fitness on Richmond Avenue, during with Steinberg allegedly made off with a 2007 Toyota RAV-4.

He is also accused of stealing a 2009 Honda Odyssey and a 2012 Toyota Camry from a Retro Fitness on Veterans Road West on October 4 and October 15, respectively, as well as a 2007 Audi A4 from the Synergy Fitness on Richmond Hill Road on October 17.

Police say Steinberg was also wanted on outstanding warrants for shoplifting in Ocean Township.
