Wantagh 7-Eleven owner slashed; 2 in custody

WANTAGH

An employee at the 7-Eleven on Park Avenue in Wantagh says that when she arrived at work just before dawn Sunday, she found her 69-year-old boss with his chin sliced open.

Two suspects, identified as 23-year-old Elijah Coleman and 25-year-old Shamar Parker, are in custody.

Police say the victim was outside shaking out the stores runner rug when the suspects approached and asked to enter the store. Parker was armed with a knife and Coleman a bat.

After the victim denied them entry, police say Parker stabbed him under his chin and slashed him across the face with the knife.

Both Parker and Coleman were then observed fleeing on foot northbound on Beech Street.

Responding officers observed the suspects sitting in a vehicle in front of 1897 Beech Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, Parker quickly exited the car and fled northbound on Beech Street. Coleman, who remained in the vehicle, was placed under arrest without incident.

After establishing a perimeter of the surrounding area and conducting a search, Parker was found at 8:13 a.m. hiding under a bush in a backyard and was placed under arrest without incident.

The victim, who sustained serious facial lacerations, was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

Parker and Coleman are both charged with attempted robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
