Cameras recorded the man who police say has held up stores in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
It probably never occurred to him when he came in that the young saleswoman would fight back, but did she ever.
When he started stealing the gold, Pi Yun Lee went after him. He threw her to the ground, and his accomplice hit her in the head with a gun. Still she fought back, even pulling the hoodie over his head. The two armed men were no match for her, and they got out as quickly as they came in.
"Are you a little scared to work here?" Eyewitness News asked.
"Still scared, I have a family, I can't," Pi Yun Lee said.
Police say the same man, seen during a robbery in Queens holding a gun, has robbed six jewelry stores with various accomplices, all in Chinatowns in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, since September. He always steals the easily sellable gold.
"He just pulled out a gun and showed it to the girl," said William Fung, a storeowner in Manhattan.
The first was William Fung's store in Manhattan. The gunman tried to break the display case glass, but couldn't.
"He lied down here, grabbed the gold," Fung said.
Clearly the men have proven to be dangerous and violent when confronted, and police are worried they will use the gun if they are denied what they want.
The suspects are all described as Hispanic men.
