The suspect was caught on surveillance camera, and authorities are hoping it will lead to an arrest.
The incident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on November 8 on Graham Avenue near Scholes Street in Williamsburg.
Police say a 27-year-old victim was walking down the street when a man came up behind her, grabbed her and threw her to the ground.
He allegedly hit the woman's head against the pavement and attempted to rape her, but he ran off when a witness stopped to intervene.
The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital for treatment.
The suspect is described a black male in his early 30s, 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds with short hair and a clean shaven face.
