Paterson father of five killed in hit and run

PATERSON, N.J.

"He was wonderful, he was the one that I waited for all of my life. It's tough not having him here," said Christina Rodriguez, the victim's wife.

Christina Rodriguez doesn't know how she's going to live without her husband Miguel.

The father of five was killed by a hit and run driver around 3:30 Saturday morning as he rode his motorcycle home to Haledon.

"Just trying to keep together, not be alone, but it's been really hard not having him here," Rodriguez said.

Police say an older model dark blue Mercedes-Benz sedan blew through the stop sign at the corner of Hazel Street and Montclair Avenue in Paterson.

Witnesses say a middle eastern man got out of the car looked at Rodriguez's lifeless body, then got back into his car, and sped away.

"How can you live with something like that? I know people get scared, but this is somebody's life, he had a family, he had kids," Rodriguez said.

Mrs. Rodriguez said her husband got his Suzuki motorcycle nearly two years ago.

He loved riding with friends during the little free time he had away from working at a meat packing company in Passaic, and juggling the needs of his wife and children.

"Every time he left I told him be careful, you here so many stories and you never think it will be you. Yeah, he loved that thing," Rodriguez said.

His wife hopes the driver who hit and killed him will hear this family's plea and turn himself into police.

"He works overnight and always comes in the morning, helps with the kids. It's really hard to imagine how life can ever be normal after this," Rodriguez said.

Police say the Mercedes has damage to the driver's side near the front and rear doors.
