Police say 31-year old Santos Amaya was walking across Islip Avenue in Brentwood when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Fredy Pavon at 10 p.m.
Amaya, 31, of Central Islip, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
Pavon allegedly left the scene of the crash and was arrested a few hours later after his damaged vehicle was located.
Pavon, 47, of Brentwood, is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Involving A Fatality.
