Up Close: Charles Rangel

NEW YORK

There was speculation that the Harlem Democrat would not run again.

But after spending more than half of his life representing Harlem and Upper Manhattan in Congress, Rangel will run for his 23rd term next year. And he's not letting his age, his past scandals, or his critics get in the way.

Rangel joins us this week to talk about his decision.

Also, New York state education officials are getting an earful from angry parents about the Common Core curriculum.

It's a new way of teaching that's supposed to help students become better critical thinkers, but it's creating confusion among teachers, parents and students alike.

We'll talk with New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch, who is committed to keeping the Common Core curriculum running.

Finally, one of our favorite stories of the week: a blind man, who fell onto the subway tracks with his guide dog shared his story with us about escaping death.

He says he and his dog are alive because of Good Samaritans who jumped into action.
