Richard Gill, 20, was arrested at his Atlantic Street home Sunday afternoon and charged with murder, felony murder and burglary.
Bail was set at $1 million.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on Saturday, Elizabeth police officers rushed to a North Avenue apartment building on a report of an unresponsive female to find the victim, 50-year-old Sharon Serball.
Serball had been found on her bedroom floor by a relative and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an intensive preliminary investigation, Gill was identified as a suspect and located.
A motive for the homicide has yet to be definitively determined, but investigators believe he and victim were known to each other.
