EXCLUSIVE: Immigrant beaten, robbed for iPhone

NEW YORK

Johely Monegro says his painful wounds are slowing healing, but it'll take much longer to get rid of the fear of walking the streets of his Cypress Hills neighborhood.

The 28-year-old was jumped by a group of teens near Liberty Avenue and Berriman Street last Saturday just after midnight, the first few punches were caught on surveillance video.

Johely says he thinks it was all a game for the teens.

Police released several clear pictures of the suspects, hoping someone will turn them in.

They stole his iPhone and $3,000 the immigrant from the Dominican Republic earned from his job as a kitchen installer.

Johely has stitches in his head, gashes on his hands, and after two days in the hospital, the swelling in his face and on his body has gone down.

His biggest worry is waiting for word from doctors about internal bleeding on his brain.

He's also worried about protecting mother and brothers.
