The vessel had departed from Rockland County headed to Weehawken when it ran into icy conditions on the Hudson River just west of Croton Point. The ferry is a jet boat, not propeller driven, and had a hard time turning around because of the ice.
There were no passengers on board. Only Captain Adam Sciaino and deckhand Tom Lennane were on board. The two waited until that tug arrived to escort them back north. A police helicopter was dispatched, but the crew was never in danger.
Ferry service between Ossining and Haverstraw has been suspended since last week because of the weather. The crew was looking to dock in Weekhawken where there is less ice. In the end, a larger, propeller driven ferry was dispatched to escort Sciaino's ship back south.
