Three New York City firefighters and four other people suffered minor injuries in the blaze.
A FDNY spokesman says the fire broke out in the basement of the building at about 5:20 a.m. Saturday.
Close to 200 firefighters from 40 units battled the blaze in the two-story building on Broadway and West 111th Street.
Three firefighters were taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, while three other people were treated on the scene and refused further treatment. A fourth suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to the hospital.
A concern for the bank's customers are the hundreds of safety deposit boxes that are located in the fire-damaged and now water drenched basement of the building. Officials say they will not know the condition of the items until they are allowed back into the building.
