4-year-old Myls Dobson remembered in vigil Sunday

NEW YORK

Dobson was the little boy with the big smile who suffered until his little body could take no more.

In an interview with the Daily News on Sunday the boy's father, 37-year-old Okee Wade was quoted as saying, "I was a loving father, that's all that matters."

The biological father was interviewed in jail where he is awaiting fraud charges. He has a long rap sheet, and yet was given custody of the 4-year-old when the biological mother was deemed unfit.

When Wade was arrested yet again in December, Eyewitness News is told he handed the trusting boy to his girlfriend, 27-year-old Kryzie King, described as a transgender performer. Authorities say King starved the boy and burned him with cigarettes and a hot oven grill.

From piercing burns to the bitter cold, King also put the near-naked child on the balcony for more than an hour the night before he was found dead in the bathtub. He had also been whipped and cut, and a cloth was stuffed in his mouth when he cried. Dobson was half his body weight when he was discovered with signs of torture all over his body.

Mayor Bill de Blaso has ordered an investigation into how Dobson fell through the cracks. Meanwhile, Dobson's father, in Sunday's interview does not cry out about his child's torture, but does get defensive about the situation.

"They put in the paper that I was dating a transsexual, that's just wrong," Wade says, "I like women, I don't date men, and I don't date transsexuals."

Wade did not have one quote about how his son was beaten to death.
