Police in Lower Manhattan have arrested a suspect in a sex assault that took place in the East Village early Monday.

The suspect is 32-year old Fermin Flores of Manhattan. He has been charged with Rape, Burglary, Criminal Sex Act, and Strangulation.

Earlier Tuesday, police released surveillance video of the incident, which happened near East 7th Street at about 3:30 a.m.

Police say a 22-year-old woman was followed into her apartment and forcibly raped by an unknown male who pushed his way inside.

The woman was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Detectives spent hours in the neighborhood Monday gathering evidence and canvassing residents for leads.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white hat, blue sweat shirt and blue jeans.
