PSE&G warns New Jersey residents of utility bill email scam

TRENTON

The company says it's received reports of customers getting emails which request personal information that could lead to identity theft. It says it wouldn't ask its customers to provide such information online without first having them log into their accounts.

Officials say they are taking attempts to defraud customers "very seriously" and are asking customers to be wary of emails demanding immediate payment or threatening termination of service.

Customers are urged to delete suspicious emails and call PSE&G to report them. Customers shouldn't provide personal information, download attachments or click on links.
