It happened just before 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon on Castle Hill Avenue in the Soundview section.
Police say the man grabbed the girl and tried to force her into a blue Astro van.
The girl was able to get away unhurt, and the man took off.
Investigators released a sketch of the suspect. He is described as an 18-year-old Hispanic male, 5' tall weighing 130 pounds. He was wearing brown boots and a black snorkel jacket.
