According to the NYPD, the man was discovered unresponsive in a cell at a police station on the Upper East Side at about 10 a.m.
EMS responded and took him to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD's internal affairs bureau is investigating. The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.
The man has not been identified pending proper family notification.
