Some never before seen photos of "The Beatles" first appearance in the United States went on display in Chelsea. The 50th anniversary of their first U.S. performance is next week.

Photographer Henry Grossman, working for Time Magazine, shot the Fab Four's first American TV appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show".

He stashed away the negatives and developed them only recently.

He says he didn't know much about the band when he got the assignment, but quickly understood their impact.

"The Beatles" appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" on February 9, 1964.

Grossman ended up traveling the world with the band.

The exhibit will be up at Gallery 151 in Chelsea through the end of this week.
