A water main break closed roads and diverted traffic in New Jersey early Monday.

The main broke just before 5:30 a.m. on Alps Road in Wayne, sending water flowing across the street.

It took crews more than an hour to find the valve to shut off the water, and then the valve was frozen shut.

Nearby residents lost water service while the main was being fixed.

Alps Road, about a mile of Route 23, remains closed.
