2 dead, 1 critical in Newburgh stabbing, shooting

NEWBURGH, N.Y.

Investigators now say 36-year-old Rebecca Winters killed herself after stabbing two people in a trailer on Mountain View Avenue in Newburgh Saturday night.

Winters allegedly stabbed roommates Bruce Montana, 60, Bertha Williams, 78, before taking her own life with a shotgun.

Williams died from her injuries. Montanya is recovering in the hospital with more than 20 stab wounds.

Town of Newburgh Police Chief Michael Clancy says Winters had been looking to borrow a small amount of money from Mantanya and then became violent when reminded of a debt she owed.

Police say Montanya did lend Winters some money, but apparently the reminder prompted her to grab a knife and begin stabbing him. Police say Williams tried to stop the attack.
