Baby critical after allegedly drunk firefighter hits pregnant woman in the Bronx

NEW YORK

The woman, who was seven months pregnant, gave birth to a premature baby who is now on life support.

The incident happened at the intersection of White Plains Road and Westchester Avenue just before 6 p.m.

Authorities say 39-year-old Sean Farrell was traveling northbound on White Plains Road when he turned right onto Westchester Avenue and struck the two women, ages 42 and 38, in the crosswalk.

Both were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition.

Farrell stayed on the scene, where police determined he was drunk.

It was his second DWI arrest in the past 10 years, which elevates the charge. He was also charged with refusal to take a breath test. More charges could be pending if the baby does not survive.
