Nassau County police say 54-year-old Mark Savransky passed himself off as a mortgage modification specialist in order to pocket $17,000 that the Hempstead couple thought he was using to pay their troubled mortgage.
The Spanish-speaking couple realized something was wrong when their house was thrown into foreclosure.
Savransky, of Dix Hills, was arrested Monday and charged with grand larceny.
