3 teens arrested in random assault on Long Island

BRENTWOOD

Wilfredo Torres, 17, of Brentwood, and Wayne Beavers and Qwatese Jarvis, both 16, of Bay Shore, were arrested Monday and charged with assault. They are considered minors, but are being charged as adults.

The victim, who asked not to be identified, said she was walking home from work on along MacArthur Avenue around 3 p.m. in Brentwood when she was attacked. She was kicked after she fell to the ground, suffering a concussion and broken ribs. She was not robbed. There was no altercation leading up to the attack.

"They didn't speak to me. They didn't say anything to me. They just simply hit me in the head," she said.

She said ever since she has had problems breathing and has pain in her side.

Her sister Alba Juarez was in court Tuesday "to represent my sister so that they know she has family support ," she said.

But Robert Macedonio, Jarvis' attorney, called it a case of mistaken identity. "They were walking together. One of the co-defendants thought it was an individual with whom he had a prior conflict, but was mistaken.

The victim said she thinks the teens knew exactly what they were doing. "I would tell people to be careful walking in the street. And take precautions because suddenly these people attack without any motive," she said.

"Thank you, God, nothing more serious happened to me but possibly someone else could be killed," she said.
