Upper West Side stabbing leaves father dead, mother wounded

A father is dead and a mother wounded after a stabbing inside their Upper West Side home early Tuesday morning.

Their son, 27-year-old Anthony Powe, is charged with second degree murder.

The victims were stabbed just before 6:00 a.m. inside a unit in the Park West Village condominiums on Columbus Avenue. According to police, 71-year-old Darlington Powe was found unconscious and unresponsive with numerous stab wounds to the face and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The mother, who is 56, is listed in critical condition at St. Luke's Hospital. She suffered a stab wound to the chest.

A bloody pair of scissors was found at the scene.

The circumstances of what lead to the deadly violence remain under investigation.
