WTC jumpers

March 25, 2014

The guys and shocker, they were all men! – were also captured on surveillance video by Goldman Sachs, and that's what got them busted. But last night, after they realized they'd be charged, they posted the video on YouTube.

I'll tell you what I thought of: All those people who jumped from the buildings One World Trade Center replaced – the Twin Towers, right after terrorists intentionally crashed two planes into the buildings. The flames were so intense, so many folks decided to jump to their deaths rather than burn. Maybe these guys who based jumped for kicks thought they'd pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, I don't know. But it's too soon, guys.

There are many who believe building a huge tower at the old Ground Zero is a tribute to the victims. I've always been mixed about that; I like the idea of a park and memorial. But I know many think rebuilding is the best tribute. And the irony is that one of the guys busted is a construction worker at the new building. So what kind of tribute would that be?

I found the whole thing creepy and disturbing, remembering the victims who perished from flames and the ones who chose to jump to their deaths. I know that those who saw those bodies leaping from the burning towers will never forget it, the horror burnished forever in their memories. We'll have the latest on the case, tonight at 11, as well as the questions it raises about security to the building – especially because another climber took to the building just recently.

Also at 11, we're looking at the burglary spree taking place in Lower Manhattan – more than 2 dozen burglaries in less than 6 weeks.

We'll also have any breaking news of the night, plus Meteorologist Lee Goldberg tracking that huge ocean storm that's going to miss us, and Rob Powers with the night's sports. I hope you can join Sade Baderinwa and me, tonight at 11.
