Bronx hit and run leaves pedestrian critically hurt

NEW YORK

The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Soundview and Story avenues.

Witnesses say the driver, 72-year-old James Coleman, got into an initial accident with another vehicle in the parking lot of the Western Beef restaurant on Rosedale Avenue and then fled the scene. In the process, he struck the man.

He then fled that scene as well, and eventually struck a parked car further down Soundview Avenue. The driver of the parked vehicle boxed Coleman in so he was not able to drive away.

Coleman is charged leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular assault, operating motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operator of a vehicle.

Coleman apparently fled the scene because he panicked.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he's listed in critical condition.
